Linking in Apricot is a feature that allows Administrators to create connections between records that would not otherwise be related. There are a few key reasons why an Administrator might want to use form linking:
To connect data points across different forms. For example, linking a "Donor" form to an "Events" form allows tracking which donors have attended which events.
To establish relationships between Tier 1 and Tier 2 forms that do not have a parent-child connection. Tier 1 forms are automatically linked to their Tier 2 child forms, but linking can connect Tier 1 forms to other Tier 1 forms or Tier 2 forms to other unrelated Tier 2 forms .
To improve data quality and reporting accuracy by bringing data from multiple sources into a single view.
To add a link, Administrators can open the Form Designer, locate the "Linking" section in the Field Choices palette, and drag a linking field onto the form. They can then configure the link to specify how many records of the current form can be connected to how many records of the linked form.
When users interact with a form that contains a linking field, they are able to search for and select the related record(s) to create the connection. This linking data can then be surfaced in reports, providing a more comprehensive view of the information.
