Visibility Options - Screen Contrast

Apricot Administrators can customize screen colors and contrast levels across an entire Apricot database for visually impaired users.

Updated over a week ago

For organizations with visually impaired or low-vision users, Apricot Administrators can customize screen colors and contrast levels across an entire Apricot database.

Individual users may also change the screen colors and contrast levels they see when they log in to their own user account.

Accessing Site-wide Color and Contrast Options

Administrators can change the color and text contrast across an entire Apricot by accessing the Apricot Settings menu.

1. To view the new accessibility options, open the Administrator tab.

2. In the left hand menu, select Apricot Settings.

3. Scroll down to the section called "Accessibility." Options selected here will be applied across the board for all users of your Apricot system.

- "My Apricot Color Scheme" will make changes to the background color for sections of the database available under the My Apricot tab - viewing active bulletins, searching for records, data entry, running reports, etc.

- "Administrator Color Scheme" will make changes to the background color for sections of the database available under the Administrator tab - form design, report builder, user management, etc.

- Text Option will apply changes to only the text on any page within the database.

- Actions Menu Options: Selecting Palette Drop-down will move any actions governed by the "Actions" tab - like creating a new Tier 2 record within a document folder, for example - to a palette in the right side of the page.

4. When you have finished making your selection, click Save Settings.

Color Scheme - Black on White

In the Black on White color scheme, backgrounds are either full black or full white. Text is either full black or full white, depending on the background color.

Some objects - like icons or photos - will not be affected by the change in color scheme and will retain their original color.

If you use HTML label fields or HTML code with colored text, these colors will all appear as black or white.

Color Scheme - Black on Yellow

In the Black on Yellow color scheme, backgrounds are either full black or full white. Text is either full black or full white, depending on the background color.

Any field that is available for entering data is yellow.

Color Scheme - Blue and Mint

The Blue and Mint color scheme, resembles the default color scheme for the Administrator side of Apricot, although now it can be applied to the user side or My Apricot side of the database as well. Backgrounds are gray-scale. Text is gray-scale or mint.

Text Options - Full Black for All Text

Full Black for All Text is a subtler change - background colors remain unchanged, but any text that would have appeared as gray will now be changed to full black.

If you use HTML label fields or HTML code with colored text, these colors will all appear as black or white.

Actions Menu Options - Actions Drop-down

The Actions Menu Drop-down selection is the traditional way new forms were created in the Standard Forms.

Actions Menu Options - Palette Drop-down

  1. The Palette Drop-down selection removes the Action tab.

  2. The Modify Forms menu replaces the Action tab and you can find your forms using the dropdown lists.

  3. New tier 2 forms can be made with the buttons at the bottom of the Modify Forms menu.

Accessing Color and Contrast Options for Individual Users

Individual users may personalize the color and text contrast levels of Apricot.

1. After logging in, hover over the user badge in the upper right hand corner.

2. Select User Preferences.

User Preferences

  1. Expand the black arrow on one of the drop down menus to access the available color options.

  2. Only users with access to some of the features on the Administrator tab will see options for changing the appearance under the Administrator tab.

  3. Once you have made your selections, click Save User Preferences.

- Note: anything marked "Site Setting" will have the appearance chosen by the Administrator for the entire Apricot site (see above).
