FAQs: Native Reporting Error Messages
Updated over a month ago

Learn how to troubleshoot common error messages found in Apricot's Report Builder below.

Note: In the event that you still cannot determine the source of the error message, please attempt to revert the report from the Report Actions palette. This will return the report to its most recently published state, and any changes that have been made to the report since then will be cleared. If the error still occurs after doing this, please contact Support.

Q: How does removing or deactivating a form field affect my report?

When a report depends on a form field for the data represented in the report, removing the field from the form will create an error message. Reading the error message carefully typically helps you identify the specific column related to the removed field. In most cases, republishing your report automatically removes this column, but it may also wipe other information out of the report that you must then rebuild from scratch.

Q: I received a "Syntax error or access violation" error message while building my report. What do I do?

This error message may prevent you from further editing, publishing, or running the report until you remove the SQL syntax or statement that was added or changed before the error occurred.

If you added a custom expression to a column in your report, this usually means the syntax of your custom expression was typed incorrectly into the text box. You can either rewrite or delete the expression by clicking the gear icon next to the column name to open its properties.

Broken filters are another relatively common cause of error messages in the Report Builder; if the last thing you attempted before encountering the error was to add or edit a filter, deleting the filter can often resolve the issue. Click on the filter to open its properties then select Delete to remove the filter.

If adjusting the filter logic was the last action you took in a report before the error, delete the last filter you added to clear it from the filter logic then recreate the filter within the report section.

Q: How do I resolve a "GUID" error?

This type of error can occur after removing an Alias section. While it is technically possible to delete an Alias section from the Section Properties window the way you would delete a typical report section, Aliases and Limits should only be removed by opening the Form Properties window and managing the Aliases section.
