How do I build a feeder report? (Native Reporting)
Updated over a month ago

Every aggregate report is built using information from one or more underlying Apricot reports. Any standard report found on the My Reports page whose data is used to create an aggregate report is considered a feeder report. Building a feeder report is mostly similar to building any other standard report; to learn more about the basics, click here.

Follow the steps listed below to learn specific best practices and considerations when creating a feeder report to use in an aggregate report.

Step 1: Consider whether or not to use filters

In some cases, it can be beneficial to create a broader feeder report with no global values or filters applied to it. You can instead choose to add filters to the aggregate report once you've added the feeder report as a data source for the grid. This provides more flexibility in what results a single feeder report can bring into the aggregate report.

In other situations, filtering a feeder report prior to using it as a data source in an aggregate report can potentially save you time. However, these filters cannot be removed or altered when editing the aggregate report in the Aggregate Report Builder. To learn more about report filters, click here.

Note: The Total Rows value at the bottom-right of the report section is the default value pulled from the feeder report to the aggregate report. If the data set has a filter placed on it, either in the feeder report or the aggregate report, this count will become smaller. To learn more about section counts, click here.

Step 2: Avoid grouping columns

Grouping is one feature of the standard Report Builder that does not carry over from a feeder report into an aggregate report. The groups are not represented when adding the report section to a grid, and the only number from a grouped report that displays in an aggregate report is still the section count value.

Note: You can learn more about grouped reports here.

Instead, you can show similar results by adding new columns or rows to an aggregate report grid and filtering each one by a different value to show the number of records in each "group". For example, the first cell in this aggregate report shows the feeder report section's Total Rows count by default, while the following cells have filters applied to them to only show the number of rows for a specific service type.
